An Accident

Even in the year 2010, people are still being killed as a result of the police reacting to supposedly overt actions demonstrated by the defendant. In most of these cases, such as the one involving the Oakland transit cop who shot a handcuffed suspect, in the back, who was lying on the ground face down, with the officer on top of him. The officer claimed he pulled the wrong weapon- a gun vs the taser. The officer was not charged with or convicted of a serious crime.

Now we have another situation, again in New York, where the police shot a nineteen year old college student through the windshield of his car. He was shot because he was supposedly trying to run over the policemen. New York is no stranger to "suspect" shootings having at least two high profile cases- one involving a bachelor party & one involving a black off duty officer who was killed trying to stop a fight.

We are again at a point in time where knowing "how not to be an accident" is necessary & relevant to survival. As the attention turned to immigration & the Muslims, we gave a sigh of relief as the hatred of ethnicity shifted toward other groups. We forgot that Blacks have been & continue to be viewed as "target practice" for the police with little or no consequences. Shoot the n#*~er, nothing will happen! This is not an indictment against the police, but rather a statement that we still have to be teaching our children the evil that still exist. It is a hard way to live, but the alternative is harder.
